IPMAT lets you join a five-year integrated management program at an IIM straight after school. Most students prepare during Class 12, so balancing it with board exams is the main challenge.
Know which test you are taking
IIM Indore's IPMAT has Quantitative Ability (short answer and multiple choice) and Verbal Ability, each in its own timed section. IIM Rohtak runs a separate IPMAT with a different pattern. Some other IIMs use IIM Indore's scores. Confirm the test for each program you want.
Maths: build on your syllabus
IPMAT Quant draws heavily on Class 11–12 maths: algebra, sequences and series, permutations and combinations, probability, and coordinate geometry. Studying for boards and IPMAT together works well if you add timed practice.
Verbal: read every day
Verbal Ability has many questions in limited time. Read editorials or long-form articles daily and practise grammar and vocabulary questions in short timed sets.
Balancing boards and IPMAT
- Use the months before boards for concepts that overlap with your syllabus.
- Keep IPMAT-specific practice to short daily sets during board season.
- Move to full mocks once boards are over.
