Decision Making sets XAT apart from other MBA entrance exams. Each question gives you a short situation — often involving a manager, employees, customers or a community — and asks you to choose the best decision.
A simple framework
- Identify who is affected and what each party needs.
- Find the core problem, not just the symptom described.
- Prefer options that are fair, practical and lawful.
- Favour solutions that fix the root cause over ones that only buy time.
Common traps
- Extreme actions like firing someone immediately or ignoring the issue are rarely correct.
- Options that benefit one stakeholder at a heavy cost to others are usually wrong.
- Watch for answers that sound ethical but don't actually solve the problem.
Balancing your preparation
Decision Making is important, but VALR and Quant also carry weight. XAT uses negative marking, so practise selective attempting across all sections.
